The 3rd Felipe Segovia Symposium organised by SEK Education Group, jointly hosted this year by SEK-El Castillo and Camilo José Cela University, was a resounding success, both in terms of speakers and workshops and in terms of attendance. Specifically, the Symposium gathered 446 attendees visiting a total of 62 workshops. A total of 37 projects were showcased by 83 participants taking part in this year’s workshops.
The event kicked off with the opening address by Nieves Segovia, President of SEK Education Group, at Camilo José Cela University. In her address, Segovia remarked that the Symposium ‘served to share best practices, to learn from one another and to celebrate a spirit of community that is so important to us at SEK Education Group, more so this year as we mark our 125th anniversary.’
Stephen Heppell, Director of the Felipe Segovia Chair for Learning at UCJC, and Marc Prensky, lecturer at Palo Alto University (California), joined Nieves Segovia on stage for a conversation on the track record of SEK Education Group with four students from SEK schools and Camilo José Cela University. Moreover, the pair stayed on for the whole event and took part in the SEK Day in the afternoon.
A wide range of workshops and keynote speakers
At the close of the opening ceremony, attendees posed for a group photograph forming the logo for the 125th anniversary of the Group and went on to SEK-El Castillo for the first of the morning’s workshops. These workshops, held in the different classrooms of the school’s pavilions, gathered attendees over the morning and part of the afternoon with a different range of activities, including mentoring sessions in nursing, social commitment, physical education projects, mindfulnesss, learning-by-doing, a time tunnel, a science fair or a workshop design for renaturalisation of Madrid’s San Blas neighbourhood, including the Maker Fair held at the school’s sports hall.
The closing ceremony of the 3rd Symposium was held at Camilo José Cela University, where the President of SEK Education Group was able to express her gratitude to all the attendees, speakers and organisers for making the event a success. Furthermore, the ceremony included the presentation of the winners of the SEK Day awards, held in the afternoon, also at Camilo José Cela University. This event also paid tribute to those professionals marking 25 years at SEK Education Group and those taking retirement in the coming academic year.
